A coach and a sports team will be inducted into the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame next Monday.

Lacrosse and wheelchair basketball coach Trish Nicholson and the championship-winning U14 Oldon Pirates girls' soccer team of 1986 will be inducted at a ceremony on Nov. 27 during the city council meeting.

The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame celebrates the history of sport in the city and is a hub for the community to recognize the achievements of individuals and teams for their contributions.

Nicholson and the Oldon Pirates girls' soccer team are the sixth addition of inductees to the Sports Wall of Fame, which was established in 2015.

Nicholson, to be inducted into the coach category, has worked with Team Canada in both the women's field lacrosse and women's wheelchair basketball.

In addition, Nicholson has 41 years of coaching under her belt in Richmond and 36 years of coaching youth at McRoberts secondary.

The 1986 Oldon Pirates team previously played for 10 years together as part of the Richmond Girls Soccer Association before winning the national championship title in 1986. They will be inducted into the team category.

"The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame not only recognizes past accomplishments but also serves as an inspiration for future generations of athletes and coaches," said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

"The achievements of the inductees motivate individuals and teams to make their mark in their chosen sport, and the Wall of Fame showcases the heights that can be achieved through dedication, perseverance and passion."

The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame and accompanying digital kiosk are at the Richmond Olympic Experience (ROX) at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The Wall of Fame is in the lobby on the first floor, and the digital kiosk is on the second floor as part of the History of Sport in Richmond exhibit.

Each inductee will have their name added to the Richmond Sports Wall of Fame, and the digital kiosk will highlight each inductee’s achievements through script, photos and videos. The Richmond Sports Wall of Fame and digital kiosk are free for public viewing year-round.
