Richmond Soccer is once again hosting the Provincial Youth Futsal Championships this coming weekend at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The format for the 2013 tournament will have two separate competition categories, Division 1 and Division 2. Both divisions will be a round robin format leading to final elimination matches.

Division 1 is open to club teams from the BC Soccer Premier League and Metro/Select level while Division 2 is open to any team within the Metro/ Select level and below. In total, 32 teams will be participating.

"Futsal is an incredibly fast game with lots of quick passes. It really helps players learn to control the ball better and to play in a small space while under a lot of pressure," said B.C.

Soccer's Don Dancey, chair of the Youth Competitions Committee. "I am happy that B.C. Soccer can provide a high level of competition free of charge to any teams interested in Futsal."

At last year's event, the Richmond-Vancouver based Fusion of the B.C. Premier League made a statement to the rest of the province by winning three of four possible titles. The U14 boys defeated Surrey United 3-1, the U16 boys won 6-2 over Magnusson Ford Mariners and the U16 girls also defeated Surrey United by a score of 3-1. The only club able to overcome the dominance of Fusion FC was the Central City Breakers Metro team - winners of the U14 girls division.
