A soccer camp is hoping to promote inclusion and empower young girls from all backgrounds.

Next Sunday, Aug. 27, 150 girls from U4 to U14 divisions will descend on South Arm Park Field to enjoy a fun-filled day of soccer activities and learn about diversity.

The one-day event is organized by Richmond FC in collaboration with Voices of Muslim Women to "foster an environment where young girls can not only hone their soccer skills but also forge meaningful connections," said Richmond FC spokesperson Marius Roevde.

Participants will also get to learn from role models and "experience the empowering atmosphere of camaraderie."

Roevde told the Richmond News the event received "overwhelming support and unprecedented demand" from the community and had filled up "straight away."

The day will kick off with a motivational speech from a guest speaker, followed by warm-ups and soccer games and end with a picnic sponsored by Coho Commissary.

"(Coho Commissary co-founder) Amrit Maharaj and Coho Commissary have consistently shown their commitment to fostering positive change, and their support has been instrumental in making these programs possible," said Roevde.
