Two Richmond Connaught skaters won silver medals at an international skating competition this month.

Wesley Chiu and David Li, both representing Canada, won silver in the senior and junior men’s events, respectively, at the 2023 ISU Cranberry Cup International competition in Boston from Aug. 9 to 13.

Li scored an international best with a total score of 185 points during the competition.

“I am very proud of my performances in Boston,” said Li.

“I had come from a rough competition a few weeks ago, so I am happy to rebound from that experience to achieve this medal for Canada.”

During the competition, Chiu performed two quadruple jumps (one quadruple toe loop and one quadruple salchow) in his free skate program, which earned him a spot on the podium.

Chiu was short 0.38 points from the gold medal, but he said Boston was a great experience overall.

“I was able to put out two solid programs and a clean long program,” said Chiu.

“This is a really motivating start to my new season.”

Li will be representing Canada in the ISU Junior Grand Prix event in Austria next week and Chiu will be heading to Toronto for the Skate Canada High Performance National team camp.
