Two Richmond skaters are competing against top skaters around the world at the 2023 Skate Canada International competition in Vancouver this weekend.

Connaught Skating Club athletes Wesley Chiu and Liam Kapeikis are taking part in the skating competition held at UBC's Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre from Oct. 27 to 29.

Skate Canada International is the second competition in the annual ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series with other events taking place in the U.S., France, China, Finland and Japan.

Chiu, who is this year's 2023 Cranberry Cup International silver medalist, will be showcasing his skills as one of 18 athletes on Team Canada in the men's event.

Despite both being part of the same skating club,  Kapeikis is representing Team USA in the competition and will compete as the lone competitor from his team in the men's event.

Last year, the two Connaught skaters made their debut in the senior Grand Prix together by competing against each other in the ISU Grand Prix in Norwood, U.S.A.

Both Chiu and Kapeikis will be competing in the men's short program on Friday evening and the free program on Saturday evening.
