Belvina Mao headed to McMaster University two years ago to pursue a degree in kinesiology. She didn’t realize she would re-discover her passion for skating too.
The 20-year-old McRoberts graduate led the Hamilton school to a fourth-place finish at the recent Ontario University Athletics Figure Skating Championships thanks to a gold medal in the Senior Silver Solo Dance event. The performance also earned Marauders athlete of the week honours and she was featured in the campus newspaper by Jessica Carmichael:

Mao enjoyed an impressive career in her home province as a member of the Burnaby Skating Club under Joanne McLeod — highlighted by fourth place finish in Senior Women at the B.C. Yukon Sectionals back in 2015. A year earlier she won bronze in Juniors. She thought her career was behind her until discovering McMaster’s skating team as a freshman.
