Richmond rower Colin Schaap wrapped up a busy summer schedule by representing Canada at the recent 2011 World Junior Championships in Eton, England.

The regatta also served as a test event for the Eton Dorney 2012 Olympic venue.

Schaap was a member of the Canadian men's four crew that also included Christopher Marshall (Brockville, ON), Lance Brazeau (Brockville) and Gareth Lindstrom (Vancouver). Canada advanced to the "B" final where it placed second and ended up eighth overall out of 17 countries.

"The athletes represented Canada well both on and off the water," said High Performance Development Coordinator, Chuck McDiarmid. "Our improved results demonstrate that we are on the right track with our development program. We will continue to evolve, looking for opportunities to target athletes and bring them together to train and race."

Schaap enjoyed a standout high school rowing career at St. George's and was a member of the winning senior men's heavyweight eight crew at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Championships. Soon after, he was invited to attend the National Junior Team Trials in Wellan ON, where he secured his roster spot.

He is now off to Northeastern University where he will continue rowing for the Boston school.
