The U13A Richmond Ravens hockey team’s long journey northeast last weekend was a very fruitful one.

The team travelled last Friday morning to the Kelowna Female Rep Tournament and had a game that very evening.

They started their weekend with some victories over teams from Williams Lake, North Island and Kelowna, but unfortunately fell short against a strong Surrey team in their last round robin game.

However, it was still enough to advance to the semi-finals early Monday morning against North Island and battled hard to get to the gold medal game against Surrey.

According to the Ravens’ coaches, both teams “left everything on the ice trying to take home the gold” with the game being “heavily back and forth.”

Ultimately, the Ravens were in the lead when a penalty was called against them with 1:12 left on the clock.

Surrey saw this as an opportunity to take out their goalie and make the last minute of play 6 on 4.

However, Richmond held strong and kept Surrey at bay to complete a memorable 3-2 win.
