Richmond players named to Football B.C. teams

Fresh off Vanier Cup win with UBC Neil Cartwright on staff with U18 team

Four Richmond players have been named to Team B.C rosters for the upcoming High Roller International Football Showdown in Las Vegas.

Hugh Boyd Trojans defensive lineman standout Darby Kwan has been selected to the B.C. U18 squad. The Trojans had one of the top lines in the province last season and Kwan’s play was one of the main reasons why.

Meanwhile, defensive back Marcas Okell, offensive lineman Tony Montgomery and running back Reece Mok have been named to the U18 B.C. squad.

Okell and Montgomery suited up for the Richmond Bantam Raiders this past season, while Mok was the leading rushing for Hugh Boyd’s junior varsity team.

Rosters for both teams were determined following an extensive selection process.

The U18 team’s coaching staff is headed by Jay Prepchuk. His assistants includes offensive line coach Neil Cartwright — a lifetime Richmond resident who has the same duties with the Vanier Cup champion UBC Thunderbirds. Another Richmond native and former B.C. Lion Angus Reid is helping coach the Team B.C. Grade 8 squad.

The High Roller Showdown is slated for Jan. 20-24
