After leading the UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team to a pair of weekend road victories, Richmond's Rachel Ramsden has been named Canada West Athlete of the Week.

After leading the UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team to a pair of weekend road victories, Richmond's Rachel Ramsden has been named Canada West Athlete of the Week.

The fifth-year midfielder scored two goals in each game as the Thunderbirds posted victories over Winnipeg and Manitoba.

On Saturday, the UBCWinnipeg game was delayed six hours because of field conditions.

When the match was finally finished, the Thunderbirds put four goals past the Wesmen. Ramsden scored the team's third and fourth goals, both in the second half, as UBC clinched a shutout.

On Sunday, the T-Birds had a very short turnaround, playing at Manitoba at noon local time. Still, UBC was able to clinch a 3-0 win. Ramsden scored the game-winning goal in the 36th minute, and then added an insurance marker just before halftime.To top things off, She assisted on the team's third goal, scored by Taryn Lim, another Richmond player in the UBC line-up.

UBC improved to 4-1-0 on the season after the two road wins. The T-Birds will host Saskatchewan and CIS #9 Regina this weekend on David Sidoo Field at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver.
