A Richmond athletes won gold at a youth national championship competition last week.
Kajaks athlete Lawrence Man competed in the U18 men's hammer throw event and took home the win as he represented Team BC at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Quebec from Aug. 11 to 13.
Man was tied for first place at 53.39m until his last throw where he threw an extra 0.62 putting him on the podium for gold.
The 16-year-old resident was also the national champion for the U16 men's hammer throw last year.
Kajaks athlete Lauren Curtis also won gold in the U18 women's hammer throw event as well.
Every year, the competition sees athletes ages 12 to 17 develop their potential skills in track and field while they strive to become Canada's future Olympians.
