The 2010 Richmond Islanders softball team picked up a gold medal on the weekend at the U13 Richmond Girls Softball Tournament at Steveston/London Park.

Timely hitting, stellar defense, and shutdown pitching, according to the coaches, led the Islanders to a 3-0 record in the round robin and the number-one seed heading into the playoffs on the Sunday.

The girls won 17-4 over the Cloverdale Fury 2011 in the quarter finals and took out the Abbotsford Outlaws 8-0 in the semis, setting up a final matchup with the Cloverdale Fury 2010.

And, in front of their home fans, the girls didn’t disappoint, coming back from an early deficit to take the championship gold with a 10-3 victory to make it their second tournament win this season.

The 2010 Islanders team members are: Amiah Atkar, Joanna Wong, Jayla Palaschuk, Quinn Cyr, Makenzie Lenahan, Sara Lexier, Hana Nishi, Emily Tse, Elina Joki, Ruby Watt, Sonam Pannu, Danika Alston and Zinnia Lin.

The team will be hosting the U13B Provincial Championships at Steveston-London Park the weekend of July 7-9.
