The Richmond Gymnastics Association solidified its status as the most successful club in B.C. with an outstanding showing at the recent 2012 Canadian Championships in Regina.
Initially, seven Richmond athletes were named to Team B.C. in five different categories, the most among any provincial clubs. The gymnasts then proceeded to win 10 medals, including four gold.
RGA was most prominent at the High Performance level where 18-year-old Devy Dyson, 20-year-old Jason Scott and 2012 Elite Canada All-Around champion Robert Watson, 18, were in impressive form.
Dyson, who has been training in for Richmond for almost a year, placed 12th all-around, showing the tremendous progress he has made since he started working with head coach Frank Szabo Jr.
Scott, a member of Canada's national team, was seventh allaround, highlighted by a fourth place finish on the high bar.
Watson, who has already shown great potential as one of Canada's youngest senior gymnast, was third in the all-around competition, defeating athletes who have been at World and Olympic Games.
He also finished on the podium in all of his event finals - winning gold on the floor, silver on high bar and bronze on the parallel bars.
By these results, the RGA boys made a strong statement that they will be a force leading into the next Olympic cycle for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Other RGA results included national junior team member Joshua Stuart placing second all-around in his division. What makes his achievement even more remarkable is the fact that he fought back from the fifth place after the first day of competition.
Stuart also won gold on rings, parallel bars, and high bar in the event finals which was the third day of performances in a row for the Juniors.
Earlier, Stuart was also a member of the Canadian national team that competed at the Pacific Rim International. That event will take place in Richmond in 2014.
In the High Performance Argo Category, Age Group National Team member Chris Kaji's best result was a ninth place finish on the floor out of 49 competitors.
Brian Lau, in the National Youth Category finished third on both the floor and the vault in the event finals. Meanwhile, Vladimir Djuric finished 11th All Around and fifth in the rings finals of the National Open Level.
