Richmond girls hockey team heads to provincials next week

A Richmond female hockey team is competing in the provincial championships in Armstrong, B.C. next week.

The Richmond Ravens U18 A1 female team is vying for the championship title with games lined up from March 20 to 24.

Before qualifying for the provincials, the girls competed in two rounds of playoffs with the first winning 4-1 in two games against Abbotsford on Feb. 8 and 9.

During the second round of playoffs in a round-robin, the girls won against Meadow Ridge Barracudas and Surrey Falcons with one loss to the North Shore Avalanche.

The Ravens' final match was up against the Tri-Cities Predators, which took place at Minoru Arena on Friday.

They won 4-1 with goals scored by Taylor Jones, Emily MacDonald and Kaila Kusec while goalie Hanna Kaustinen defended against the Tri-Cities' strong offence.

Meanwhile, the Ravens will be playing against the North Shore Avalanche for the number one Lower Mainland spot in provincials and the league banner on Tuesday night at the Harry Jerome Recreation Center.
