The Fencing World Cup is coming to Vancouver, and it will be hosted by Richmond’s fencing club.

Dynamo Fencing Club, based out of Richmond and North Vancouver, is hosting the 2022 Vancouver Fencing World Cup at the Vancouver Convention Centre between Dec. 8 and 11.

The fencing event, presented by University Canada West, will see 400 top international athletes vying for the title of best epeeist.

Vancouver is hosting one of five annual Fencing World Cups and next month’s competition is the first competition to include both women’s and men’s events.

Dynamo Fencing coach Igor Gantsevich, who is also the high-performance director of the Canadian Fencing Federation, said the event is a form of inspiration for young athletes, who get to see world stars competing.

Vancouver fencers, including senior and junior national team members, will be competing this year: Alexanne Verret, Janet Chen, Samuel Gallagher Pelletier, Dylan French, Nicholas Zhang and Fynn Fafard.
