Camryn Rogers' final competition before departing for her freshman season at University of California Berkeley in the coming weeks was winning gold for Canada last weekend at the U20 Pan American Track and Field Championships in Peru.

Camryn Rogers has helped Canada to its best showing at the U20 Pan American Track and Field Championships in over 30 years.
The 18-year-old Richmond throwing standout twice broke her own national hammer throw record en route to capturing gold on Sunday in Trujillo, Peru. Her winning toss was 63.42 metres, finishing ahead of Cuba’s Ayamey Medina Rosa (62.18) and Mariana Garcia of Chile (58.90).
In total, Canada won 22 medals over the three-day competition, its best result since 1984. Canada finished second in the overall standings behind the United States.
It’s been a golden summer for Rogers who earlier this month also won the U20 hammer throw at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa. Her fifth and final attempt proved to be her best at 61.95 metres, finishing well ahead of Kaila Butler (58.72) and Kajaks teammate Chanell Botsis (57.21).
Rogers was also named to the B.C. team slated to compete in Winnipeg at the Canada Summer Games but opted to pass on the invitation to prepare for her departure for University of California Berkeley for her freshman year. The 2017 McMath graduate earned a full-ride scholarship to the renowned NCAA Division One school.
