The ninth annual Richmond City Baseball Victoria Day Wood Bat Tournament features three teams from Alberta and nine more from B.C. with five days of action, starting Thursday at Blundell Park.

An impressive line-up of teams is set for the ninth annual Richmond City Baseball Victoria Day Wood Bat Tournament, starting Thursday at Blundell Park.

The 15U AAA event features 12 teams with round-robin games from Thursday to Saturday. The top two from each of the four pool groups move onto the quarter-finals on Sunday. The semi-finals take place at 9 a.m. on Monday, followed by the gold medal game at 2:30 p.m.

Back to defend their title are Alberta’s Okotoks Dawgs — an academy team from the Calgary suburb. They are part of a competitive round-robin group that includes reigning B.C. champion Delta (Orange) Tigers who enter the tournament with a perfect 16-0 record in league play.

The tourney includes two more Alberta entries — Sherwood Park and Parkland, who will be facing the host RCBA Chuckers on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

Rounding out the entries are North Shore, West Coast, Cloverdale, Delta (Blue), Chilliwack and Ridge Meadows.

RCBA parent volunteers will be busy operation a concession and barbecue, along with 50/50 draws in what should be a terrific weekend of baseball. Both diamonds at Blundell will be in play.
