MacNeill Ravens will turn this attention this week to the Vancouver and District Championships after their dominant run to the Richmond title.

The future looks bright for boys basketball at MacNeill Secondary.

Fresh off winning the junior boys title, the Ravens added the Grade 8 city crown last Thursday, capping a perfect season with a 59-29 victory over Steveston-London in the title game.

MacNeill rolled to a 10-0 league record and the dominance continued in the Richmond Championships where no opponent was within 20 points. A 60-25 opening round win over Boyd was followed by a 61-40 triumph against McMath in the semi-finals.

The Sharks’ road to the city final began with a hard-fought 56-50 win over McNair, followed by a 48-33 victory against Richmond High.

The Ravens, Sharks and Wildcats all move on to this week’s Vancouver and District Championships at Burnaby Central.

MacNeill takes on Burnaby/New West League third place finisher Glenbrook in its opening game Wednesday. The Sharks will battle North Shore runner-up Handsworth, while McMath has a play-in game Tuesday against Argyle.

The championships conclude Friday.

Meanwhile, it was also a dominating run in the Richmond Grade 8 Girls Basketball League.

McMath capped a perfect run with a win over Hugh Boyd to earn city honours after going 9-0 in league play.

The Wildcats head to Burnaby South for the V&D Championships where they will open play Wednesday against Burnaby Central. Boyd will take on North Shore runner-up Mulgrave, while Richmond third place finish Steveston-London has a play-in game Tuesday against West Vancouver.
