The race for first place in Division Two of Richmond Adult Soccer Association’s Spring League is going down to the wire with four teams within a single point of each other.
Some separation could be created this week with front-running Vancouver Strikers taking on the Richmond All Blacks who sit just one point back. Also in the hunt are United Nations and Bombastic F.C. who are slated to face each other in another key head-to-head battle.
In action last week, Richmond Olympics hosted Bombastic looking to avenge a 2-1 loss from earlier in the season.
They got off to a good start and opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Kyle Kemp made a run to score from his back position. Five minutes later, Mike Reston made it 2-0.
Bombastic came back into the game but struggled to find the net. It became a deeper hole when Jesse Wills scored an amazing goal from the edge of the penalty area with a diving header past the stranded Bombastic goalkeeper.
The second half saw Kemp and Reston add goals to give the Olympics a 5-0 lead. Bombastic didn’t give up and Owen McSwiney gave them life on a fine header. Shortly after, Mark Twohig cut into the deficit again. However, the Olympics proved to be the stronger team on the night and prevailed 5-2.
In Division One action, Delta Blaze moved closer to clinching the title with their eighth consecutive win, a 3-1 triumph over Westside. Defending champion Rino’s Tigers now trail by five points but still could be a factor.
