Play football with the pros this Family Day

Beginners, more experienced players can practise

Football B.C. will be hosting its first-ever Family Day Combine at the Richmond Olympic Oval on Monday.

The Family Day Combine begins with Play with the Pros - a free, football skills camp for boys and girls aged five to 12 that will feature instruction from select members of the B.C. Lions.

The Combine will then transition into Football B.C.'s provincial evaluation sessions where athletes from ages 13 to 18 will be put through testing (40-yard, 10yard, standing broad jump, T-test) and work on position-specific skills (individual, one-on-ones and skelly) with football coaches from across the province that are currently coaching at the community, high school and university level.

No prior football experience is required for Play with the Pros. For Football B.C.'s provincial evaluation sessions, prior football experience is recommended, but not required.

"We are very excited to be holding a full day of football activity at a world-class venue," said Football BC executive director Patrick Waslen.

"We hope to see our entire football family across the province attend this event, and we encourage those new to football as well to participate in the day's activities."

The 60-minute Play with the Pros program begins at 9: 30 a.m. Senior Bowl. For players currently in Grade 12, tryouts are slated to start at 11 a.m. Team B.C. evaluations, for players born in 1996 or 1997, take place from 3 to 6 p.m.

The cost to take part in a Prep to be the Best evaluation, Senior Bowl or Team B.C. tryout is $30 if you pre-register online at www.playfootball.bc.ca/prereg_provincialevals, or $40 for walk-up.

Players taking part in one of these sessions should bring their own mouth guards and dress in appropriate workout attire.
