The Pirates are Richmond City Baseball Mosquito Division playoff champions thanks to a thrilling 7-6 victory over the Red Sox.

In a game that will go down in memory as one of the greatest ever played at Gibbons Field, the Pirates were down to their final out and facing a full-count with the tying run at third base. That's when Gabriel Sussenbacher-Fu clobbered a two-run inside the park home run to capture the gold medal for his team.

The Red Sox played brilliantly and just moments prior had fended off the Pirates by throwing a runner out at home to preserve their lead, albeit just temporarily.

Both teams deserve tremendous applause for putting on the game of the season.

The all-star portion of the minor baseball season is now underway with Richmond City scheduled to host two profile events - the Bantam AAA and Pee Wee AAA Provincial Championships. Both tournaments will take place Aug. 2-6. The Bantam tournament will take place at Blundell Field while the Pee Wee games will be held at Brighouse and Steveston Athletic parks.
