Seafair Storm Pee Wee C5s made the most of their trip down south for Seattle Junior Hockey Association’s Spring Thaw Tournament, returning home with top honours.
The road to the title include Seafair going 2-0-1 in round-round play in games against Abbotsford, Seattle and South Delta. In the semi-finals, the Storm pulled away in the third period to defeat Coquitlam 4-1.
The result sent the locals onto the championship game against Langley, marking the first time the teams had squared off since the Valley squad had prevailed in the final of the Icebreaker Tournament back in November.
The rematch proved to be a tight defensive battle with the teams deadlocked at 1-1 at the end of regular time.
Seafair’s penalty kill unit came up with a big stop during the 4-on-4 overtime period, sending the game to a shootout. The locals concluded a thrilling weekend with a 2-1 victory after five shooters, thanks to a lightning quick glove save off of Langley’s final attempt.
