The Steveston Kendo Club hosted its 51st annual invitational tournament, welcoming over 250 competitors from California, Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest and across Canada.

This is a bit of a transition year for Steveston as several members were participating in their first ever tournament.

Notable performances by juniors Nathaniel Estrada, Mika Iwai, Sasha Ito and Kaito Cheung show a promising future for the members. However it was the seniors, led by Ryan Murao, Wendy Robillard and Ian Miki, that showed the strength of the host club.

Award winners included: Kenta Muramatsu (3rd place, 11-to-13-year-old division). Christopher Lam (3rd place, 14-and-15year-old division). Brian Moromisato (3rd place, senior non-degree 0-4 kyu division). Katherine Lam (3rd place, ladies 1st degree and under division). Wendy Robillard (2nd place, ladies 2nd degree and over division). Ryan Murao (1st place, 1-2 degree black belt division). Ian Miki (2nd place, 3rd degree black belt division)

Steveston also came second the team competition, led by the efforts of Isao Takagaki, Neal Nakano, Terry Kondo, Miki and Murao.
