The McRoberts Strikers put the finishing touch on a superb season by winning the Vancouver and District Grade 9 Boys Volleyball Championship on Monday night.

The McRoberts Strikers wrapped up a dominant season by capturing the Vancouver and District Grade 9 Boys Volleyball Championship with a four-set (3-1) victory over Richmond Christian on Monday night.

The Strikers entered the playoffs with plenty of momentum after a perfect run (7-0) in league play and four tournament wins — Burnaby North, a pair at McMath and their own invitational. They won the Richmond title with victories over Richmond High (3-0), MacNeill (3-0) and Richmond Christian (3-1) in the championship match.

McRoberts opened the V&D Championships with a straight set (3-0) win over Burnaby/New West runner-up Moscrop before duplicating their earlier result against Richmond Christian in the all-city final.

The Eagles needed to win a wild card match over North Vancouver’s Sentinel to advance to the main draw where they upended last year’s champion Burnaby North (3-1) in the semi-finals.

McRoberts coach Sherri Frier credits her players’ love for sport for the successful season. The Strikers were second at the V&Ds a year ago.

“They bring a relentless and enthusiastic effort and always are able to bounce back at any stage of a match. They have confidence in and encourage each other, always putting the team first,” she said.

The coaching staff also includes: Noah Enns and Paul Huang.

The roster features: Willy Billedo, Austin Kofler, Bryan Jang, Egan Wong, Mak Hui, Will Zhang, Rand Wang, Ethan Yodogawa, Braeden Doneza, Lucas Alibudbud, Ryle Barcita and Kevin Chen.
