The McMath senior girls basketball team is off to the Provincial Championships, after this week’s win at the South Fraser Zone Championships.

The Wildcats defeated Surrey’s Salish Secondary in the AAA Senior Girls final at the South Fraser championships with a score of 108-37, said Jamie Kippan, who coaches the team along with Zoran Radocaj and Anne Gillrie-Carre.

The team is now off to the Provincial Championships, which will be held March 2 to 5 at the Langley Event Centre.

According to Kippan, McMath will be the number one seed from the South Frasers.

Marina Radocaj was selected tournament MVP while Caitlin Kippan and Kee Hohlweg were chosen as all-stars.

Aaria Johal, Andreas Chan, Emma Bradley-Tse, Teagan Ng, Tamar Gordon, and Amelia Spiteri also make up the team.

The senior girls team had a “dominant season,” Kippan said and has been ranked in the top four all year at the AAA level.

The team also went undefeated in league play 9-0.

“We haven’t been able to play in many tournaments this season due to the Covid restrictions but have had very good results against some of the top AAAA schools in the province in exhibition games,” said Kippan.

Earlier this month, the Wildcats also won the Richmond Championships, where they triumphed over McNair 80-22, then Steveston-London by a score of 96-25 and finally MacNeill 93-38.
