UBC bound volleyball standout Juliana Kaufmanis has been named to the national junior women's team following her impressive play at the recent National Team Challenge Cup in Winnipeg.

The recent McMath secondary graduate was one of 14 players named to the Canadian team that participated at the USAV High Performance Championship Tournament in Iowa and will continue to train in Winnipeg until Aug. 18.

Kaufmanis, a 6-foot outside/middle, was recoginized for her fine play with Team B.C. Red by junior national team head coach Scott Koskie. Her team finished fourth at the tournament.

''This is a great opportunity for us to support the development of some of Canada's best young talent," said Koskie. "We had some very difficult decisions selecting from over 150 athletes competing and want to thank everyone for their efforts.''

Ontario's Danielle Brisebois, who will be joining Kaufmanis at UBC come September, was also named to the national team.

"We are thrilled that Dani and Juliana were both selected to the junior team," said UBC head coach Doug Reimer. "I am not surprised as I feel that both have the potential to contribute at the national team level. The additional training with strong coaching and high level competition will of course be very helpful for them prior to starting their first years with the T-Birds."
