MacNeill boys basketball team finishes season in B.C. top 10

The Ravens are saying goodbye to six players who are graduating this year.

Richmond's MacNeill boys basketball team finished off the season in the top 10 at the provincial championships.

The MacNeill Ravens boys basketball team placed seventh in B.C. after two wins and two losses at the AAA provincials held at the Langley Event Centre.

The Ravens were the only Richmond team at the provincials and started off strong on March 6 with a 70-58 win against South Kamloops.

The MacNeill team went on to lose 68-38 to top-ranking St. Patrick Regional secondary and to North Delta 72-58.

Their last game in the tournament, however, resulted in an 89-61 win against Courtnay's Mark Isfeld secondary.

"The win over Isfeld gave us 30 wins for the season and wrapped up a pretty good season for our basketball program," said Steward Siy, basketball coach at MacNeill.

Grade 11 guard Chad Gammad was named the second-team provincial all-star after scoring a total of 121 points during the four games.

"He has been our leader on both ends of the floor all year and the bigger the stage, the better he played," said Siy.

With the closing of the basketball season for the MacNeill boys, they will be losing six players -- Joaquinn Bautista, Migel Galanto Tan, Samer Award Raouf, Miko Bacarac, Marco Ip and Francis Chan -- to graduation.
