Lim's timely goals earn her player of the week honours

Taryn Lim has been named Canada West Female Athlete of the Week after leading the seventh ranked UBC Thunderbirds women's soccer team to a pair of victories.

The Langara College transfer scored in the 14th minute of play as UBC defeated Fraser Valley 3-0.

Two days later, she also slotted the game winner in a 1-0 triumph over Victoria.

Just before halftime, Lim knocked a low shot back across the goal through a forest of legs and into the net.

Her performance came a week after another Richmond player in the UBC line-up, Natalie Hirayama, had also scored twice.

"To have Natalie kick in a couple last week and now Taryn too, that's fantastic," said UBC head coach Mark Rogers. "Taryn does so much unselfish work for us to create space, so it's great to see her get a bit of a reward for that as well."

The local contingent in the UBC line-up also features Sydney Morrison who is a key member of the team's stellar backline.

"Obviously (goalkeeper) Ally (Williamson) has come in and done very well in goal, but the foundation of our success has been a year and a half working on defensive shape," added Rogers. "We've kept eight out of nine clean sheets - how can I criticize? I have to tip my hat to my defence."

The two wins for UBC (7-1-1) sets up a battle for first place in the Canada West on Saturday as the T-Birds hosts first place and fourth ranked Trinity Western (8-1-0), winner of eight straight games.
