Aldergrove Kodiaks have stormed back from a 3-1 series deficit to force a game seven with the Richmond Sockeyes in the Pacific Junior Hockey League championship series.

Scott McHaffie’s power play goal at the 2:56 mark of overtime lifted the Kodiaks to a 3-2 game six victory on Saturday night. The result marked the first time in the series Aldergrove has won on home ice and sets up Monday’s deciding game at Minoru Arenas (7 p.m.).

The Sockeyes enjoyed a 2-1 second period lead on goals by John Wesley and Mac Colasimone when the Kodiaks pulled even on a shorthanded tally from Jonathan Philley. A scoreless third period featured outstanding goaltending at both ends with Kootenay Alder making 41 saves in the Richmond net and Aldergrove’s Jordan Liem turning aside 27 shots.

Liem turned in a a 33-save performance in game five as the Kodiaks skated to a 3-0 win at Minoru last Thursday.

First period power play goals from Joshua Cronin and Kenny Prato, less than three minutes apart was all the Kodiaks would need. The visitors added another in the second period.

The winner of this series will represent the PJHL at the Cyclone Taylor Cup Junior “B” Provincial Championships, slated for April 9-13 in Nelson.
