It was an impressive haul for ever-growing Bhullar Wrestling at a tournament in Abbotsford.
The Richmond club brought home four gold and three silver medals from the B.C. Wrestling sanctioned meet.
“2018 is off to a great start. Our club is constantly growing and evolving, and consistently producing results. Our only concern is the lack of space. As our numbers are increasing, we need the space for these kids to train,” said coach Jag Bhullar.
Training sessions are held at the gym located on the family’s farm on Sidaway Road. The City of Richmond is working with BWC to facilitate a larger space for the program and create a central hub for wrestling in Richmond.
Bhullar Wrestling is a volunteer-based program that was created to raise the sport’s profile in Richmond and give back to youth. The staff also includes UFC fighter Arjan Bhullar who enjoyed an outstanding wrestling career — highlighted by a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
“We have had several meetings with the city – with counselor Bill McNulty, and we are optimistic that they will support BWC by providing a larger space for the club,” said Arjan. “We are developing athletes that will go forth and bring home medals from the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics, Pan-Ams, and those medals will come back here to Richmond.”
