Nolan Howell helped Team B.C. roll to a perfect record against Ontario in a trio of Tier One Elite Series at the National Youth Rugby Championship recently in Calgary.
The McRoberts secondary graduate scored a brace of tries in B.C.’s 38-24 game three victory to close out the tournament. B.C. outscored its opponents 160-59 in the three-game series — winning by 61-14 and 61-21 scores in the earlier matches.
“I’ve never had a group of guys come together within a week and play so well and respond so well to a game plan,” said U18 captain Jason Hignell of Abbotsford. “It blew my mind really. The strength of this team is the all-roundedness,”
I was surprised, honestly,” Hignell said when asked about the opposition. “I don’t know if [Ontario] didn’t bring enough or we brought too much, but it worked out. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys.”
Back in May, Howell had a leading role in McRoberts winning bronze at the B.C. AA Championships. He was named a tournament all-star.
