A pair of former Richmond Lacrosse standouts have been recognized for their play this past season in the B.C. Junior “A” Lacrosse League.
Jordan Gilles is the 2015 recipient of Keith McEachren Trophy as the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player.
The defensive standout had a leading role in helping the Delta Islanders reach the league championship series for just the second time in franchise history. Gilles was traded to Delta after two seasons with the Coquitlam Adanacs where he won back-to-back BCJALL titles.
The deal re-united him with Greg Rennie who was also his head coach with the Richmond Intermediate “A” Islanders. Gilles managed 20 points in 18 games and is projected to be among the top picks in the 2016 Western Lacrosse Association draft.
Meanwhile, Ryland Hood was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team after an outstanding season in net.
The second-year goalie was superb in the post-season, helping the Islanders complete a three-game sweep of Victoria before facing a barrage of shots against the high-flying Adanacs.
Hood will be one of Delta’s key returning players in 2016 where he will be joined by another Richmond Lacrosse product — Brad Hofmann — who served as the Islanders captain.
Meanwhile, Ryan Jensen helped Team B.C. earn silver at the U15 Canadian Field Lacrosse Championships which wrapped up on Sunday in Halifax.
Ontario broke a 6-6 tie late in the third quarter and went on to defeat B.C. 11-7 in the gold medal game.
Jensen comes from a family with a rich lacrosse background, including his father Rod — a former WLA standout who is now head coach of the Langley Thunder.
Earlier this summer at the National Box Lacrosse Championships, Ian Ryder helped the B.C. U15 team win silver, while Sekwanee Baker was a member of the bronze medalist B.C. Midget team.
