Richmond lacrosse standout Jordan Gillies has earned a major award in his final season at the junior level.

Gilles is the 2015 recipient of the B.C. Junior “A” Lacrosse League’s Keith McEachren Trophy as the circuit’s Most Sportsmanlike Player.

The defensive standout has had a leading role in helping the Delta Islanders reach the league championship series for just the second time in franchise history. Gilles was traded to Delta after two seasons with the Coquitlam Adanacs where he won back-to-back BCJALL titles.

The Adanacs won the opening game of the finals on Wednesday night in Coquitlam, trimming the Islanders 9-8. The best-of-seven series resumes Saturday at the Ladner Leisure Centre (7:30 p.m.).

Despite his prominent play at his own end of the floor, Gilles still managed 20 points in 18 games and was among Delta’s goalscorers in Coquitlam.

Another former Richmond Minor Lacrosse standout — goaltender Ryan Hood — was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team. Hood has enjoyed a terrific post-season so far, backstopping the Islanders to a three-game semi-final sweep of Victoria, then turning aside 51 shots in game one of the finals.
