A member of a family with a rich lacrosse history in Richmond will be guiding the Intermediate "A" Roadrunners in 2014.

Richmond Senior Lacrosse president Terry Wolfe announced last week the hiring of Gord Frederickson as the team's new head coach. He replaces Greg Rennie who officially stepped down in September to become assistant general manager and head coach of the Delta Junior "A" Islanders.

Lacrosse has been in Fredrickson's blood his entire life.

His father, Gord Sr. won three Mann Cup national senior "A" championships and has been inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. His brother Gary was a standout player for the old Richmond Junior "A" Outlaws franchise and went on to play in the Western Lacrosse Association for the Vancouver Burrards.

Gord Jr. has been involved in Canada's national sport for over 45 years, including a playing career that began in mini-tyke and concluded at the senior "A" level. He played Junior "A" for the Roadrunners and won a Mann Cup as a member of the New West Salmonbellies.

He also has an extensive coaching background, having worked at all levels - from grass roots to the international, junior and senior ranks. He has previously served as a head coach in the B.C. Intermediate "A" Lacrosse League in Richmond and New West. He also guided the Delta Junior "A" Islanders and worked as an assistant in the WLA.

Joining Frederickson behind the bench will be another long time player and veteran coach. Dave Cochrane is also a Richmond Junior "A" Roadrunner alumni who went on to play a number of seasons in the WLA with Coquitlam.

The Roadrunners are coming off a silver medal at last summer's provincials.
