Richmond goalkeeper Bea Francisco has been named to the women's national junior field hockey team that will be competing at the upcoming 2012 Junior Pan American Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The 20-year-old UBC human kinetics student was one of 18 players named to the Canadian team by head coach Peter Milkovich following an extensive evaluation process that began with 55 players identified across the country.

Last fall, Francisco backstopped UBC to its record 13th CIS national championship.

"We are pleased with the opportunities we have provided over 36 players to compete for positions on this team in 2012," said Milkovich. "The final roster of players represents an excellent mix of experience and playing styles and all players share the underlying core values of this program."

The Junior Pan American Championships will serve as a qualifier for the 2013 Junior World Cup. Canada's preparation for the tournament included a tour of Europe in July.

"The knowledge gained allows us to look forward to the Pan American Championships with a high level of confidence and excitement that we are prepared to achieve our goals," added Milkovich.

The Junior Pan American Championships run from Sept. 10-13.
