The RC Palmer Griffins will be trying to cap off an outstanding season in style this week as the top seed in the “AA” tier at the B.C. School Sports Ultimate Championships in Surrey.
The Griffins have earned the No. 1 ranking in the 14-team tier thanks to their recent victory at the Lower Mainland AA Championships. Palmer rolled to a 13-3 win over St. Thomas More in the final, led by the efforts of Liang Liu and Vince Tan.
Earlier, the Griffins captured the Richmond championship, handing the Richmond Colts their first loss of the season. The team is coached by Fred Gumangan.
Palmer is in a pool group with Archbishop Carney and St. John’s.
Right behind Palmer as the No. 2 seed are the Richmond Christian Eagles.They will be up against Carver Christian and the B.C. Christian Academy in pool-play.
Meanwhile, the Richmond Colts have earned the No. 5 seed in the “AAA” tier. They will be up against Point Grey, Guildford Park and West Vancouver in their round-robin group of the 16-team tournament.
The top two from each pool group will advance to the playoff round.
Both the “AA” and “AAA” tournaments take place at Newton Athletic Park with the gold and bronze medal games slated for 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
