The Hugh Boyd Trojans will be fighting for their playoff lives on home turf this afternoon.

The Trojans are in a must win situation to qualify for the B.C. high school "AA" postseason when they host Victoria's Belmont Braves at 4: 30 p.m. They head into the contest with a 1-3 record in Southern Conference play after blanking Eric Hamber 29-0 last week. It's the prior results that has them in a desperate mode.

They dropped a heartbreaking 21-20 home field decision to Holy Cross back on Oct. 5 and, a week later, fell 20-18 on the road to the Seaquam Seahawks.

Behind the the top ranked South Delta Sun Devils, it is a logjam of four evenly matched teams for the final three playoff spots. Unfortunately, the Trojans will be on the outside looking in if they can't get a win today.

The Braves enter the contest with a 2-1 record and can still finish as high as second place.

"That easily could be us in that position," said Boyd head coach Bill Haddow. "Instead, we got to fight our way into the playoffs. We have always played well at home and hopefully we can use that to our advantage."

Quarterback Travis Coutts and running back Kory Nagata each scored a pair of touchdowns against a winless Hamber team that is playing its first season in this tier.

"They're struggling a bit over there right now but it takes a lot to build a program from scratch," added Haddow.

Linebacker Riley Galloway led the Trojans defensive effort with nine tackles. Defensive end Brett Robertson added eight.

End Zone...

Boyd's junior team continued its impressive season Wednesday with a 36-8 win over Langley to improve to 4-0 in Southern Conference play.

The Trojans already have first place locked up. They will close out regular season play on Tuesday when Eric Hamber visits at 3 p.m.
