The Richmond Kajaks' 44th annual B.C. Elementary Track and Field Championships will go ahead as planned at Minoru Park's Clement Track.

The Run Inn sponsored meet is scheduled for May 25-27. Grade 3-7 students are invited to compete in sprints and middle distance events, hurdles, shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, high jump and relays.

As B.C. Teachers' Federation members have voted to withdraw from extra-curricular activities, the Kajaks Track and Field Club encourages parents to take responsibility for the registration of their own children. If possible, a combined school registration is preferable, where one parent would take care of the registration for a given elementary school. However, the registration system will accept individual entries.

To ensure that all students may participate, entries are online: www. kajaks.org/events/bcelem. htm#entries.

Entry fees are $7 per individual event and $14 per relay event.

Richmond Olympian and Treasurer for Kajaks, Alexa Loo, remarked: "By offering the registration online, we are ensuring that all public school students have the opportunity to compete regardless of B.C. Teachers' Federation job action.

"For some of these kids, the B.C. Elementary Championships is one of their first sport competitions and will ignite their love of sport and competition! Some will continue on in track and others will take their skills to other sports. Whether it is a personal best or a podium placing, everyone is a winner and everyone should have the chance to compete."
