Richmond Minor Hockey product Anthony Ast has been shortlisted as a potential member of Team Pacific for the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Windsor, ON.

Ast, a 16-year-old forward who was the Vancouver Giants first round pick in the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, was among 23 players identified following B.C. Hockey's U17 Provincial Camp last month in Salmon Arm.

The shortlisted players will continue to be evaluated with their club teams until mid-November, following which, 11 players will be selected to join the top players from Alberta to form Team Pacific.

Ast played for the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League last season where he produced 24 points in 29 games, including eight goals. He also was called up to play four games for the Giants and recorded one assist. Later this month, he will be at the Giants training camp in Ladner looking to secure a roster spot with the WHL club. The World U17 Challenge is slated for Dec. 29 to Jan. 4.
