YVR firefighters serve pancake breakfast to support burn fund

YVR Fire & Rescue has raised more than $35,000 in 10 years for the burn fund.

Firefighters from Vancouver International Airport will be flipping flapjacks on Thursday (Aug. 24) at the Canada Line Templeton Station to raise money for the burn fund.

And, if it’s not called out, YVR firefighters will bring along “Red 5,” their latest truck which has been wrapped in custom artwork from Musqueam artist Summer Cannell.

The artwork is a traditional Musqueam design and features six thunderbirds decorating the sides and rear panels of the truck.

“In my culture, everything has a purpose, a meaning behind its stories. The thunderbird is known for its protection, it is a giver of life, and it is known for bringing water,” said Cannell. “I wanted to tie both my Musqueam culture and YVR. I think this truck helps to connect the two.”

Firefighters will be at Templeton station from 7 to 11 a.m. and hope to serve 300 breakfasts by donation.

This is the 10th year YVR Fire & Rescue are holding their pancake breakfast, and over this time period they’ve raise more than $35,000 for the B.C. Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.

YVR will match all donations made at Thursday’s pancake breakfast.

Food, coffee and supplies are being donated by SSP Canada Food Services, which operates Monk’s and Urban Crave at the airport.
