WorkSafe's flash mob garners kudos

WorkSafeBC in Richmond is the winner of the Provincial/Crown Corporation thanks to its novel way of spreading the message about workplace safety and health - both internally to staff and in the outside community.

WorkSafeBC in Richmond is the winner of the Provincial/Crown Corporation thanks to its novel way of spreading the message about workplace safety and health - both internally to staff and in the outside community.

Internally, they held an online scavenger hunt where employees were challenged to search intranet pages for hidden answers in their safety at work, and health and wellness pages.

Staff worked with volunteer fitness instructors to choreograph and rehearse a dance to Work Safe, Work Safe, a song with workplace safety lyrics, to the tune of Frank Sinatra's classic New York New York. On April 6, a "safety flash mob" was held in the staff cafeteria to help create interest for other employees to take part in a public "flash mob" planned for NAOSH Week.

On May 5, at the Lansdowne Mall, a public "flash mob" was held taking the safety message of NAOSH Week and WorkSafeBC to a larger community audience. The event was videotaped, placed on You Tube, and actively tweeted about. To date there have been more than 2,300 views of the "flash mob" on You Tube.
