Black History Month at the Richmond Public Library

Learn about black history through photographs, discussions and 3D modelling at the 7700 Minoru Gate branch. Topics and presentations include: Learn About Inventors, Scientists and 3D Modelling with Steven Sanders; An Adventure with our Youth Through Dance and Storytelling; and To be Seen and Unseen: The Duality of Growing Up Black in Vancouver. Rising Stars with the Richmond Orchestra

Since 2009, the Richmond Orchestra has organised an annual “Rising Stars” concert that invites young local musicians to rehearse and perform with a full orchestra. The winners of the Richmond Music Festival Concerto and Composition Challenges will be featured as the 2018 Rising Stars at Fraserview MB Church. Visit www.roca.ca for details.

Black History Month Art Exhibition at Richmond Arts Centre

Enjoy this exhibition that explores the concepts of identity, culture and self-expression through photography, illustration and paintings. Featured artists include Steven Sanders, Rhoda Obineche, Tajah Olson, Aaron Joseph and Willum Watt whose works depicts an intimate journey from Canada through Ghana, the USA and Cuba, capturing the colours and identities of black people in a global effort to highlight similarity in diversity. The artists will be present at an opening reception on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Upper Rotunda. Light refreshments provided.
