The City of Richmond is seeking public feedback for its 2023 to 2024 Steveston Streetscape Project.

Do you enjoy strolling down the streets of Steveston Village? Are there enough sidewalks? Do you feel safe cycling in the area?

These are some of the questions the City of Richmond is seeking input for as it plans for the 2023 to 2024 Steveston Streetscape Project, which aims to define a "long-term transportation plan for a safe and enjoyable Steveston."

From today until Feb. 4, 2024, the community is invited to participate in the latest phase of public engagement and comment especially on Chatham, Moncton and Bayview Streets.

To do so, community members can visit LetsTalkRichmond.ca to view related information and complete the online survey or complete a printed survey at City Hall (6911 No. 3 Rd.) or Steveston Community Centre (4111 Moncton St.).

The city will also be setting up three pop engagement booths at the following times in 2024:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Steveston Public Library (4111 Moncton St.)
  • Saturday, Jan. 20 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Tram Museum (4011 Moncton St.)
  • Thursday, Jan. 25 from 12 to 4 p.m. at City Centre Community Centre (5900 Minoru Blvd.)

Topics to touch on include pedestrian space, parking, street furniture, cycling and other active transportation infrastructure.

The current feedback session builds on previous community engagement and city council directions.

According to the LetsTalkRichmond page, the city is currently working on an updated parking study for Steveston after the last engagement session, which will consider whether there is sufficient parking in the area using traffic data.

TransLink is also seeking feedback on whether to temporarily move the current Steveston Transit Exchange bus route to Chatham Street between Fourth and Sixth avenues until an off-street option can be financed.

The public will be given additional opportunities to provide feedback once the streetscape concepts are developed in 2024.
