The first stage of watering restrictions kick in across Richmond and Metro Vancouver on Friday, May 1.

The watering regulations are part of Metro Vancouver’s Drinking Water Conservation Plan and are supported and enforced by the City of Richmond.

Stage 1 water restrictions take effect May 1 and progressively stricter stages may be implemented, as needed, based on water supply within the region.

Stage 1 includes:

•             Residential lawn watering allowed:

o             Even-numbered addresses: Wednesday and Saturday mornings 4 to 9 a.m.

o             Odd-numbered addresses: Thursday and Sunday mornings 4 to 9 a.m.

o             Watering trees, shrubs, decorative planters and flowers (excluding edible plants): Any day from 4 to 9 a.m. using a sprinkler; anytime using hand watering or drip irrigation.

•             Non-residential lawn watering allowed:

o             Even-numbered addresses: Monday mornings 1 to 6 a.m. and Friday mornings 4 to 9 a.m.

o             Odd-numbered addresses: Tuesday mornings 1 to 6 a.m. and Friday mornings 4 to 9 a.m.

o             Trees, shrubs, decorative planters and flowers (excluding edible plants) can be water any day of the week, anytime using hand watering or drip irrigation, or from 1 to 9 a.m. using a sprinkler.

•             Edible plants can be watered anytime.

Demand for water is at the highest during evening hours when residents require water for domestic uses such as preparing dinner, dishwashing, laundry and showers. Watering lawns early in the morning helps reduce the peak demand on the water system.
