Metro Vancouver water reservoirs are near capacity but that doesnt mean anyone in the region can ignore lawn sprinkling restrictions that went into effect June 1.
In fact, Richmond has the harshest fines in the region escalating from $100 to $1,000 along with the four different stages of Metro drought.
With a summer thats expected to be hotter and drier than normal, its even more important to follow the rules that restrict sprinkling to mornings only from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Even-numbered residential addresses can open the taps Monday, Wednesday or Saturday while odd-numbered addresses can water Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday.
Metro leaves enforcement to the individual municipalities. Vancouver issued 750 such warnings last year and issued four $100 fines.
Surrey has a $200 fine, while Maple Ridge charges just $75 for water wasters.
