UPDATED: Richmond riders roar into schools for annual ‘Scrambble’

Students challenged by motorcyclists to come up with a points-scoring word; Blundell wins with 109-pointer

To the growl of the engines, the second annual Richmond School District Breakfast Scrambble roared and rumbled its way around several of the city’s elementary schools on Thursday morning.

With the help of the Richmond RCMP and local riders, the entourage rode around 14 schools to meet students, before finishing up at the district’s administration building on Granville Avenue.

The ride is organised to raise awareness for the various Breakfast Club programs throughout Richmond and district worksyard staff, along with other departments,  assembled a group of motorcyclists to take part.

The “scramblers” pulled up to each school parking lot and asked students to participate in a game of Scrabble.

Seven random letters were selected by the students, and used in conjunction with the provided scrabble board to form one word.

The schools had until the end of the day to submit their entry. The winning school, Blundell elementary, won with the word "oldwife," which was good for a score of 109 points.

Blundell will be presented with a plaque of recognition and its Breakfast Club will have breakfast cooked for them by the worksyard staff.
