The man killed in a workplace accident in Richmond on Saturday afternoon has been named by his family as 52-year-old Deepkiran Singh Gill.
Emergency services were called to Richmond Plywood at 13911 Vulcan Way in north Richmond about 1:20 p.m.
Although the details of the tragic incident have yet to be confirmed, paramedics and firefighters are understood to have administered CPR on Gill for several minutes, after he was pulled from a machine inside the factory.
A full WorkSafeBC investigation is now underway to determine the exact cause of the fatal accident.
According to the Straight, relatives of the deceased man, who had gathered Sunday at his Cloverdale home, said Gill had immigrated to Canada from Punjab, India, during the 1980s.
He is survived by a wife and a 24-year-old son and was apparently an experienced worker at the company, which ships wood across North America.
