Seven people died in Richmond between January and March due to the toxic drug supply, according to the latest statistics from the BC Coroners Service.
The coroner released its latest numbers on Wednesday (May 14), noting three people died in February and three in March in Richmond.
Total deaths from toxic drugs in 2024 in Richmond were 24.
Across the province, preliminary data shows 132 people died in February, and 143 in March “due to unregulated drug toxicity,” the BC Coroners Service stated in a press release.
The number of drug deaths in February and March is equivalent to about 4.7 and 4.6 deaths per day, respectively.
Between January and March 2025, there were 97 deaths in Vancouver, 52 in Surrey and 28 in Greater Victoria.
Forty-five per cent of deaths reported took place in a private residence, while 20 per cent were outdoors.
