Motorists in Richmond should avoid the intersection of Francis and Gilbert roads due to a gas leak at a home in the area Thursday evening.
According to Diana Sorace, media spokesperson with FortisBC, natural gas line in the area had been damaged.
βThe damage to the line was done by a third-party working in the area,β said Sorace, adding that there wasn't any evacuations happening in the area.
"We would again like to remind the public that the majority of damages to our system are preventable -- always call or click to BC1Call before you dig to obtain information on the location of buried gas lines and other utilities."
Police was called by the Richmond Fire-Rescue department to assist with traffic control near Lucas and Gilbert roads, said Cpl. Ian Henderson, spokesperson with the Richmond RCMP.
FortisBC anticipates the repairs will be finished by 8 p.m.
At the time of the incident, a witness reported on social media that emergency vehicles are currently blocking off the intersection as well as north of Gilbert Road.
