Update: Large fire at Richmond golf course was a storage shed

Richmond Fire-Rescue sent six trucks to the blaze at Quilchena Golf and Country Club in west Richmond

Six fire trucks were called to the scene of a large blaze at a Richmond golf course on Thursday afternoon.

Richmond Fire-Rescue said it was called at around 2:15 p.m. to Quilchena Golf and Country Club in west Richmond, where a large storage shed was ablaze.

The shed - which stored equipment - was only a few feet away from a number of detached homes on Semlin Drive, close to No. 1 Road and Granville Avenue.

Richmond Fire-Rescue's acting deputy chief, Cory Parker, told the Richmond News that fire investigators were still on the scene, as of 4:30 p.m.

Parker added that there appeared to be no injuries to golf course staff or the public.

The fire was spotted by a resident in the Terra Nova area, Wayne Duzita, who noticed the flames licking out of the shed, which sits behind the first tee.

The blaze is only a few feet away from a number of large, detached homes on nearby Semlin Drive, close to No. 1 Road and Granville Avnue.

A video circulating on WeChat also shows large plumes of smoke billowing into the air on Thursday afternoon.
